Where do we even begin!! This is the 4th or 5th time our family has worked with Eugen and his company Avant Plumbing and Testing and we will not turn to anyone else. From his prices and punctual arrival to his expertise and knowledge in the plumbing world, Eugen is hands down the best. He'll even explain what he's doing and why. Plus, he somehow finds a way to make the workspace look even cleaner then when he arrived. Recently we had him visit my in-laws home in Northbrook and he managed to not only replace the shut off valve on their toilet, he rebuilt the tank and its components as well. During that same visit, we had Eugen change the cartridges in their laundry faucet and work on various showers within their house (Moen, Delta, Kohler) and had everything running like new. My wife and I have used various plumbers in the nearly 20 years we've lived in the north shore area and no one comes close to Eugen and Avant Plumbing. I called Avant after receiving a quote from another company recommending a complete hard parts rebuild and replacement of all three test cocks on my 1½” Wilkins backflow preventer. Wanting a second opinion, I reached out to Eugene at Avant. Right away, Eugene asked me to send a few photos. After reviewing them, he said he didn’t think the test cocks needed to be replaced but wanted to inspect the unit in person before making any recommendations. Since I work downtown every day, he even came out after I got home from work, which I really appreciated. Once he inspected the unit, he cleaned a rubber gasket, flushed out some debris, and got everything working properly without replacing the expensive parts that had been recommended. In the end, he saved me $466 by taking the time to diagnose the actual problem instead of replacing parts unnecessarily. That level of honesty and integrity is hard to find these days. Avant has earned all of my future business. I’ll be using them for my annual backflow testing, any future backflow repairs, and my general plumbing needs. I’ll also be recommending Eugene and Avant to everyone in my homeowners association. It’s rare to find a contractor who earns your trust on the first visit. Eugene did exactly that. I strongly recommend Avant Plumbing & Testing! I live in an older apartment building, but Eugene’s experience was clearly evident with each issue I threw at him, no matter how complicated. I had the shut off valves replaced under our kitchen sink (including a dual outlet valve with separate shutoffs for our dishwasher and hot line) as well as the shut off valve for one of our toilets, two bathtub spouts and the kitchen sink basket strainer with the misaligned p-trap. Avant Plumbing & Testing was easy to work with when dealing with my property management team. Eugen is a super nice, super conscientious, experienced and knowledgeable professional, which is hard to find these days.   He installed bathroom fixtures, outside frost free hose faucet and repaired the outside drain pipe. He took his time and explained what he was doing as he was working. I'm super happy with the work that Eugen performed while he was fixing the water flow and pressure problems that I had due to debris obstructing it...was super easygoing and great to work with. He replaced the cartridges for my bathtub faucet, and everything turned out great. I’m very happy with the service I received. We had Avant Plumbing & Testing remove an existing backflow device that was no longer needed, did the anual certification for the other backflow. Replaced the water powered back up sump pump system with a battery powered back up system. Eugen is very neat, provides great explanation to detail, shows great respect and concern knowing that you are not at your best given the situation. Eugen Catana is the best! He has been my 'go to' plumber for many years now. I was so happy for him when I learned he opened his own company Avant Plumbing and Testing. I own a 100+ year old two flat in Chicago. Eugen is an expert at problem solving  and working with vintage pipes and fixtures. I have original 'Chicago Faucet' brand fixtures and he is able to source the correct parts to preserve the originals. He shows up on time and cleans up after the work is done.
